Reading for pleasure!

We encourage our students to read for pleasure and it has been excellent to see an increase in Year 7 pupils reading during afternoon registration. Reading is fundamental to education. Proficiency in reading, writing and spoken language is vital for pupils’ success. Through these, they develop communication skills for education and for working with others.

Many of our pupils are already keen readers with parental support (thank you!), and the "Olave's Reading" Site, which can be found by following this link, contains the Olavian 100 - our top 100 suggestions for fiction and other books, sorted by key stage that reflect the diversity of our students as well as a reading log for students to keep a record their reading.

Departments have provided reading suggestions that are available for students on the Olave's Reading Site. These are also published on the relevant Subject pages of this website. Reading across the curriculum supports the knowledge and vocabulary to be learnt in each subject.
